Gambhir back in Indian Test squad after 2 years
Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir returned to the test configuration two years in India after playing his last international. He was called to the home Tests against New Zealand instead of KL Rahul remaining wounded. Rahul had injured his right hamstring during the first Test in Kanpur, while running between the wickets.
In addition, the fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who first missed test Chikungunya, will not play the second round, either as he is yet to fully recover. Uncapped offspinner Jayant Yadav Haryana replaces Ishant in the squad for the second Test in Calcutta. The BCCI said in a statement that “continue to monitor the progress of Ishant.”
