Malayalam superstar Mohanlal looks to be hell bent on conquering Tollywood audiences and make himself a saleable hero in the two Telugu states.
After the failure of his first Telugu release, ‘Manamantha’ this year, Mohanlal scored a huge blockbuster with ‘Janatha Garage’. Of course NTR was the lead in the film, but the senior Malayalam hero’s share in the success of the film can’t be undervalued.
With the popularity he achieved with JG, Mohanlal on 2nd December released the Telugu dubbed version of his latest film as ‘Manyam Puli’ in as many as 350 screens. The film is reportedly doing decent business for a dubbed film and is expected to bring good profits to everyone involved.
Now, Mohanlal’s another Malayam hit of this year, ‘Oppam’ is gearing for a release in the Telugu states. The film is titled ‘Kanupapa’ in Telugu and makers have announced to release the film on 30th December on a massive scale.
Directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Oppam’ was a successful thriller revolving around a blind man. The film is already a big hit in Kerala. Earlier, there were reports of its Telugu remake being planned with either Nagarjuna Akkineni or Venkatesh. As both these senior heroes are doing experimental movies these days and the film already proved to be a big hit, the remake was highly likely.
However, with the newly found foothold in the Telugu states, Mohanlal is reported to have decided against the remake and instead decided to release the dubbed version to further increase his reach into tollywood masses. Losing out on the remake of a potential film like ‘Oppam’ is surely a blow to senior Telugu heroes.
